How to Obtain a Cuba Visa
Don’t worry, the process of obtaining your visa is simple, and the following information will walk you through the entire process.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: If you were born in Cuba or are a citizen of Cuba, disregard all of the information below and please see the "Visas & Requirements" section on our Cuba FAQs before proceeding. If you were not born in Cuba and are not a citizen of Cuba, please proceed.
Citizens from almost all countries in the world are required to obtain a visa before entering Cuba. To know whether or not you need a visa to visit Cuba, visit iVisa.com. Simply select your home country and "Cuba" then click "Get Started!"
Important Note: All citizens of the United States or international citizens traveling to Cuba through the United States must obtain a Cuba e-Visa prior to their departure to Cuba. If you are not a United States citizen but plan to travel through the USA on your way home from Cuba, please check that you have the proper documents or visa to do so, as the United States has recently changed laws that affect citizens of other countries in different ways.
As of July 1, 2025, most United States commercial airlines allow you to purchase your Cuba e-Visa at the airport via a QR code or link. However, we always recommend that you handle this before your travel day to ensure that there are no "hiccups" in your travels. If the process changes, be advised that this information will be updated.
After purchasing your flight, call your airline to confirm their e-visa process.
The following US airlines travel to Cuba. You will find Cuba e-Visa costs and where you may obtain them below. Please be advised that prices are subject to change at any time due to pricing changes with each airline. The prices below simply reflect what each airline communicates via their website.
- American: $85 in advance online
- Delta: $85 – purchase at the gate or in advance online
- JetBlue: $85 – purchase at the gate or in advance online
- Southwest: $85 – purchase at the gate or in advance online
- United: $85 – purchase at the gate or in advance online
If the information above says "purchase at the gate", that means that you may purchase your e-visa at your final airport before leaving the USA and flying to Cuba. That being said, we always encourage our travelers to fill out their e-visa within 72 hours of their arrival at the airport. We also encourage you to fill out your D'viajeros Cuban Customs Form before arrival at your airport as well. This can only be done 72 hours in advance of your arrival in Cuba.
If you determine that you need a visa for your travels to Cuba and you want to get it in advance for any reason, we recommend using Cuba Visa Services. They are the company that United States airlines utilize to provide visas for their customers.
The Process of Obtaining Your Cuba Visa
If you are flying to Cuba from the USA and you need a Cuba e-Visa, please follow the process below.
Purchase your Flight
- Your reason for travel will be "Support the Cuban People".
Purchase your e-Visa
- This can only be done within 72 hours of your arrival in Cuba.
- Visit the Cuba Visa Services e-Visa Website to complete your purchase.
- When filling out your e-visa information, remember to select your reason for travel as "Support the Cuban People". Why? This e-visa is for documentation by the United States, and you must qualify under one of their 12 general licenses for travel. "Support for the Cuban People" is how our travelers qualify.
- Once you have completed the purchase of your e-visa, take a screenshot of the final e-Visa Document for use in Cuba in case you don't have cell phone connection upon arrival.
Fill out Your D'viajeros Cuban Customs Form
- This can only be done within 72 hours of your arrival in Cuba.
- Note: Completing your D'viajeros form usually works best on a mobile device.
- Visit the Cuban Customs Website to complete your D'viajeros Cuban Customs Form.
- To change the language on the website, the options are at the top right of the page.
- Filling out your D'viajeros Customs Form is the only place where you will select "tourism" for your reason of travel to Cuba. Why? This is the Cuban Government's Customs Form.
- When asked for your province of travel, you will select "La Habana".
- When asked for your municipality of travel, you will select "La Habana Vieja".
- When asked for accommodation type, you will select "rent home".
- Once you have completed your D'viajeros Customs Form, take a screenshot of the Final D'Viajeros Form Document (it has a QR code on it) for use in Cuba. This is useful in case you don't have cell phone connection upon arrival, as Cuban Customs will need to see and scan that document upon your arrival.
After completing the steps above, you will be ready to begin your travels to Cuba!
- Important Note: You might not be able to check-in for your flight before arrival to the airport. Why? All of your documents (flight confirmation, e-visa, d'viajeros form, and passport) must be confirmed before they will let you officially check-in for your flight.
- Once you have arrived at the airport, visit your airline's check-in counter. It is there that they will confirm your flight, e-visa, d'viajeros form, and your passport. Once all of that is confirmed, they will check your bags and let you proceed to security.
- If asked at any airport in the USA why you are traveling to Cuba, you will say, “Support for the Cuban People”, as all Gardner Tours legally qualify under this category.
- Enjoy the ride and Get Ready to Live!
