You will be accompanied the entire tour by a Gardner Tours professional guide, educated on Cuban culture, history, etc, and all we require of you is to simply enjoy yourself! In the event that something changes or doesn’t go exactly as planned, please be patient and courteous, as it is our guarantee that our guides will handle any challenges with timely grace to ensure that you are taken care of and that you get the authentic Cuban experience you desire.

On the Old Havana Walking Tour portion of your tour, your guide will tell historic and romantic stories of the locations you visit, ask questions, and even challenge you with a visual scavenger hunt or two during your tour! Each of our guides are well versed in their city and able to answer almost any question you may have for them! You will have complete freedom to take your walking tour as slow or fast as you please, stopping as often as you like for a rest, a cold refreshment, or to peek your head into a souvenir shop. Your guide will serve you along the way and ensure that you are well taken care of. (We have had travelers up to 85 years old on our Old Havana Walking Tours and even they did great!)

*The Tropicana Cabaret (since 1939) has shows every night, but in the event that they do not have a show on the night planned for your tour, we will make adjustments and take you to another show, such as the famous Cabaret Parisien or the Buena Vista Social Club.

Based upon the time you choose to begin your tour, you will meet your professional guide at the Plaza de Armas in front of the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Statue. After a quick meet and greet and an overview of your tour, you will take off on a Walking Tour of Old Havana to uncover its best-kept secrets and monumental history. Your professional guide will introduce you to a classic city frozen-in-time that goes deep beyond what the eye can see.

Morning

On the Old Havana Walking Tour, your guide will explain the history behind some of Havana’s greatest sites and share with you stories of great triumph and defeat in the country’s history. Along the way, you will learn about each side of the culture, from Cuba’s music (you might even get to dance with local artists in the street), to its many religions, and even its day to day struggles. On the morning portion of the walking tour you will see some of Havana’s most famous sites like the Plaza de Armas, the Castle of the Royal Force, the Palace of the Captain General, the Little Temple, the Malecón (seawall), the Christ Statue, the Morro Castle, the Old Plaza, some great head-scratching art pieces, the Plaza and Basilica/Convent of San Francisco de Asis, multiple monuments and statues of famous characters, the Plaza of the Cathedral, La Bodeguita del Medio (one of Hemingway’s hangouts), and many more.

Lunch

After your Old Havana Walking Tour, your guide will lead you to a relaxing lunch at one of our favorite places, a private rooftop restaurant that delivers the most authentic Cuban cuisine and atmosphere to properly refresh. This restaurant was originally a home constructed in the mid-1800s and now serves as a restaurant, art gallery, and BnB. You will get the opportunity to experience a cool breeze on the rooftop as you sit back, relax, and take in Old Havana conversing about your day with your guide and fellow travelers. You will also receive a private Cuban Cocktail Lesson, with drinks included, from their professional bartender. This is often mentioned in our reviews as one of the favorite parts of the tour because of the uniqueness of our chosen location and the tastiness of the cuisine.

Afternoon

After a refreshing lunch, your guide will lead you back down into the bustling streets of Old Havana to complete your walking tour in the Capitol area. On your way to see the Central Park, the Grand Theatre of Havana, the Capitol, the original Partagas Cigar Factory, and a few other interesting gems, you will visit an Artisan’s Market to collect some unique souvenirs. If there is time, your guide might take you up to one of the best views in all of the city. Be sure to request it if you desire.

There’s no better way to finish your Havana Day Tour than on a two-hour Classic Car Tour of the city, visiting Havana’s most amazing views and historical sites like Revolution Square, Cristo de la Habana (a Panoramic View of the City), El Morro Castle, Vedado, and ending the car tour with a cruise down the Malecón (seawall).

Dinner

Once you’ve worked up an appetite and explored the city via your Classic Car Tour, you will be returned to our favorite restaurant in Havana that is situated in a quaint alley near the Havana Cathedral, where you will taste what could be the best plate of cuisine to ever hit your tastebuds (seriously). And don’t worry, you will have an ample amount of time to enjoy your meal, the live music, and chat as the evening winds down.

Night-Life

Before completing your night, you will have the opportunity to return to your accommodations to clean up and put on your best attire for “the best show in Cuba”, a two-hour live show with music, dancers, and acrobats, at the world-famous Tropicana Cabaret, since 1939. Following the two-hour show, around midnight, you will be returned to your accommodations in Havana to rest up and prepare for your next big adventure the following day.

Wow! After taking a one-day tour with Gardner Tours of Havana, I absolutely want to return to Havana for a second trip. Yunior, our guide, was incredibly friendly and open to all questions about the sights and culture. We started with an open-top classic car driving tour, ending at the cigar factory. We spent about an hour in the cigar factory, and had lunch in a beautiful little cafe. The food was AWESOME, and we ate every bite! After lunch, we went to the hotel and had drinks (the mojito I had was just fantastic), and then we spent some time in the marketplace bartering and purchasing souvenirs. We finished the afternoon with dinner at Esto no es un Café. My favorite part of the tour was the show at Tropicana. The costumes and dancers were very talented, and I had a blast. Overall, I could not have been happier with my experience. If you’re planning on visiting Havana, Gardner Tours is the way to go!

Gardner Tours is a terrific group of folks to do business with. It’s an A1 organization. They are so easy to work with and the website is a breeze to navigate. They worked with us to organize a custom day tour in Havana in May and it was fantastic. Their attention to detail was impeccable. Every meal was planned and the restaurants they chose for us were excellent. Every excursion ticket was purchased and ready. We didn’t have to lift a finger. They were flexible if we wanted to spend a little more than the allotted time at certain spots. Yunior, our tour guide, is a rockstar and just a wonderful human being. He saw to every single little aspect and his attention to details and attentiveness to our needs was above and beyond. He truly wanted us to have a wonderful experience. By the time our day was over I considered him not a tour guide but a friend. If you are considering a trip to any of the locations that Gardner Tours offers service too, contact Colby Gardner. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Let them build a custom trip for you!!!

This was an absolutely amazing tour. Carlos was the greatest tour guide ever. He was very professional and very personable. Very knowledgeable and knew his informative. The price was excellent. The places that we toured was well thought out for us and the food was amazing. The place that we ate at for lunch was amazing the family that hosted us was truly amazing and made us feel welcome. Oh and a big shout out to Carlos the bartender who taught us how to make the best mojitos and margaritas that experience was the best. We felt very safe through out the tour. Carlos was very attentive to our groups need. The atmosphere and culture was breathtaking. I loved that we were able to ride in the old cars that was awesome. This was an experience of a life time for me. I made wonderful memories with my family and met some awesome new friends/family for life. What also made this even more special is because my group can actually say we were making history while we were literally walking in Cuba because we were the last cruise ship that was able to enter Cuba from the US until things change again. Cuba is so colorful and rich in history. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip even though I hate that I missed the dinner portion of my tour and I regret that I didn’t choose to participate in going to the Tropicana. If I get a chance to go back to Cuba I will definitely make sure I go to the Tropicana. I am so glad that we booked the Gardner Tours!

Sonya, thank you for your detailed and kind review! We are honored to have served you. Carlos said he loved being your guide as well! Also, thank goodness, you are still free to travel to Cuba with Gardner Tours vía airlines (even after the June 5 changes), as we are still an authorized company to operate in Cuba! We would love to see you guys again!
